Our Work

Kaleidoscope is building a community of changemakers that value diverse perspectives and embrace authentic connections.

People returning to Bay Area neighborhoods after incarceration face enormous obstacles to securing housing and employment, and to building personal and professional connections – all necessary for a successful return to the community.

The most obvious obstacles include a shortage of rehabilitative services during incarceration and after, and policies that prevent formerly incarcerated people from achieving true freedom upon release.

To eliminate the most obvious obstacles, we believe we must address the obstacles that exist within ourselves and our distance from one another.

Kaleidoscope’s cohorts are designed to challenge harmful stereotypes and biases, and catalyze change by building trust, respect and connection among a diverse group of Bay Area community members and changemakers.

Our Guiding Principles

Everyone deserves to have a seat at the table and feel they belong.

Sharing stories is more powerful than teaching or preaching.

Listening is as important as speaking.

Transformational relationships trump transactional relationships.
